Hatton Garden Heist

Although the security company that was monitoring the location for the safe-deposit boxes had been notified several times by the police and security services, they failed to get any activity recorded by the cameras. This in turn let the thieves know that they would not be detected easily.

The thieves made their way into the bank around lunchtime on April 6th, quickly loading up on as much money as they could and leaving a note to a clerk stating that they would be checking the boxes. A few minutes later, they were silent. Only when one of the security guards checked the boxes and found no money in them did they alert the police.

CCTV footage from inside the bank showed the thieves emptying the contents of the vaults and walking out through the front door. CCTV cameras in the street also picked up the smell of food as the thieves walked towards Hatton Garden. Less than an hour later the CCTV cameras captured the image of a man who matched the description of one of the suspects. He was arrested and charged with burglary after a brief struggle with one of the arresting officers.

The CCTV footage showed the man in his work clothes, walking towards an address on a side street. He knocked on the door of a house and was asked for money in exchange for the key. The man was intercepted by one of the surveillance cameras and brought to the vicinity of the heist. CCTV captured the moment he was tackled by one of the police officers, a man called Hugh Dorset. He tried to run away but was caught by one of the constables and both were taken to a nearby police station for questioning.

Hugh Dorset had a lengthy criminal record including one offense of burglary, two counts of assault, and one count of attempted murder. On the day of the burglary, he told a detective constable that he did not know what was in the bag but that it contained basil and cheese. The CCTV camera captured the movement of the suspect and he matched the information given by Brian Reader, the investigating officer who had previously worked on the previous Hatton Garden Heist.

Police officers found a receipt for three bottles of bleach hidden in a washing machine bag in the home of one of the suspects. Brian Reader was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Crown Office after carrying out his own investigation. The remaining suspects, Brian Price (confronted by his partner Danny Jones) and one other man, Michael Smith (accused of being an accessory after the fact), were each found guilty and were sent to jail for a period of four years. The sentences for all eight men were suspended.

Hatcher Garden

The Hatcher Garden is managed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency or US EPA. The primary goal of the agency is to protect natural water sources and improve aquatic habitats. The agency’s secondary goal is to restore and maintain natural woodlands and wetlands. US EPA also works to improve air quality and reduce pollution in the communities near residential communities and commercial properties.

In the late 1990s, the government of Spartanburg began planning to convert part of the old downtown area into a National Park. Part of this plan included demolishing a portion of the downtown commercial buildings and using the demolition as the basis for the Hatcher Garden.

The redesigning of the area spanned about three miles of the lower portion of the Dan River. The resulting plan called for building a pedestrian mall on land that formerly was a part of the downtown retail area. Part of this redesign plan also included converting part of the public park to a major tree-savvy open space that was designed and funded by the city of Spartanburg.

The design for the Hatcher Garden revolved around a series of linking ponds. In the middle of these ponds were trees and other features that the developers hoped would enhance the visual appeal of their landscaping project. By revamping the design of these ponds, the developers hoped to create a more spacious public park and make it easier for citizens to enjoy outdoor space.

In some areas of the original layout of these ponds, there are spaces with waterfalls or fountains, while in other locations, trees and shrubs have been planted to help create an atmosphere of calm. A number of unique features such as natural waterfalls, birdbaths, and pavilions have also been incorporated into the overall scheme of this section of the original plan.

Although part of the original plan called for a grandiose plan, including a grand entrance gate and a grand avenue that would connect to the main campus of the university, a more subtle design was eventually implemented. Much of the original design focused on the creation of a functional woodland.

At different times throughout the planning of the Hatcher Garden, large trees and massive shrubs have been used to support the development of paths, provide shade for walkways, and create the foundation of what is often a large grassed area within the dense woodland. Since many Hatcher trees have a wide range of uses, it has become necessary to keep their roots under control to avoid structural damage to the park.

Spartanburg is home to many gardens and public parks, so much of the woodland that comprises these areas have already been developed. In the case of the Hatcher, the existing trees and shrubs have been grown to maturity before being used in the gardens and public parks.

A large portion of this wooded area has already been transformed into a series of unique public park areas. These unique public spaces provide an opportunity for citizens to sit back and relax, admire the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, and participate in a number of nature at its best.
